The Disease vs. Health Model

I think many would agree that the conventional form of allopathic medicine is lacking in a more comprehensive approach to addressing our state of well-being. Currently we are operating under a Disease Model, which is designed to diagnose and treat symptoms. Part of the problem as I see it is that it has become a business and does not keep people in mind. This model does not seem to be sustainable for our economy nor the individuals it is designed to serve.

I am practicing a very different model: A model of Self- Regulation. This model acknowledges that the body is a self-healing organism, which needs the right information in order to heal itself. It is not focused on symptoms but the underlying causes of those symptoms. There are many causes that lead to dis-regulation. Sometimes it is our relationships, our jobs, our families, our thoughts/ belief patterns, our lifestyles and even our food choices. Any one of these stressors over a long period of time can lead to a break down in health and the body’s ability to self-regulate.

A pillar of my health transformation model focuses on reducing entropy. Entropy is a physics term, which has to do with the level of order or disorder for any system. Higher levels of entropy equal more disorder/disease/chaos while lower levels of entropy create more organization, leading to increased health, a higher quality of consciousness and love in a person’s life. One thing I focus on with my clients is to assist them in lowering entropy in their lives and bodies.

In future newsletters I will be going more deeply into the topics of self-regulation and entropy.

Diet/Nutrition

One of the few things we have control over in our lives is what we eat and the nutrients we take in. The system I am using, which supports the body’s natural healing, is called Nutritional Balancing. It is based on a Hair Mineral Analysis (HMA) which provides a clear picture of how the body is managing stress biochemically. The HMA measures the mineral levels in the body, which are the foundation of health. Without adequate levels of bio-available minerals, we cannot make hormones, enzymes, vitamins or neurotransmitters, and RNA/DNA does not function properly. Any form of stress affects mineral levels, which in turn affect blood sugar, thyroid, adrenal activity and overall vitality. The more mineral levels become dis-regulated, the harder it is for the body to heal itself. From HMA it is easy to assess what kind of supplementation and diet would be necessary to address a person’s underlying imbalances.

Something that I really like regarding the HMA is that it can be done from wherever you live.  In fact, a great number of my clients do not live in Los Angeles.   One can send a hair sample along with the paperwork.  Once I get the sample it typically takes about 2 weeks for me to get the resutls back from the lab.  Then I can schedule either an appoitnment by  phone or skype if an in office visit is not possible.  For more questions please feel free to contact me.

Biofeedback/Neuro-feedback

Other avenues that assist the body to better self-regulate and reduce stress are biofeedback and neuro-feedback. Both of these systems have their own benefits. Neuro-feedback focuses more on helping the brain waves self-regulate, whereas biofeedback affects the entire physiology.

I am currently using an advanced biofeedback technology from Germany called the CyberScan. This device scans the entire body and assesses the kinds of stress a person is under.  The scan will help address imbalances in areas such as:

  • Microbiology
  • Fungus/Candida
  • Toxic Chemicals
  • Heavy Metals
  • Electro Smog
  • Geopathic Stress

We then imprint the signals causing stress to the body into a liquid carrier, which acts as the biofeedback mechanism. The solution then communicates and stimulates the immune system to better self-regulate. I know it all sounds a bit like Star Trek, and it is!

Neuro-feedback is a form of biofeedback. This is often referred to as EEG biofeedback and is a non-invasive method for training the brain. By using specialized equipment we can actually monitor, analyze and record the real-time electrical activity of your brain, commonly referred to as brain waves. Our day-to-day psychological and physiological health is a reflection of how our brain waves are functioning.

Astrology

One on the most surprising and powerful tools is Astrology. Up to the 17th century when exclusively reason-based approaches became dominant, you could not be a Physician unless you were also an Astrologer. As spacey as it sounds (pun intended), there is a direct correlation between the energy of the planets and the energy of humanity. By simply analyzing a person’s birth data, we begin to understand the archetypal language that uniquely governs a person’s life. This kind of information helps us understand our reality and how we can better navigate the stresses of life. It can also reveal patterns where we may be prone to certain health related issues.

Meditation

Lastly, I would like to mention one other tool I have recently been using with some clients and personally for many years: Meditation. When I speak of meditation, I am not referring to sitting with eyes closed trying to stop your thoughts. I am more specifically addressing how we work with the mind. Our minds, thoughts and beliefs have a tremendous effect on overall health. What I have learned over time is that, as we begin to develop an ability to impartially observe our thoughts, we naturally start to change without having to use force to make those changes. This, in turn, creates more balance and improves our overall health and well-being.
