How to Reduce Pain Naturally
Posted September 13, 2016 By James Hopson
More than ever in today’s society, people are experiencing chronic physical pain. In fact, the excessive use of opioids and pain medications is actually contributing to the growing problem of pain, which is reaching epidemic-like proportions. According to the American Academy of Pain Medicine, pain affects more than 100 million, or approximately 1 in 3 people, in the U.S., and that’s a lot!
The stresses of life, including emotional trauma, poor diet (lack of minerals like magnesium), low-grade infections, traumatic accidents, lack of activity and insufficient sleep, all contribute to higher levels of PAIN. Many methods attempt to reduce pain, and some are more successful than others. One that I have found to be very effective is the use of biofeedback.
Biofeedback is a self-regulation technique that often involves the use of an instrument to measure the functioning of the autonomic nervous system. The body then uses this information to train itself to better self-regulate. Biofeedback technology has been in use for decades now, addressing numerous medical conditions, such as lowering blood pressure, reducing anxiety, diminishing pain and ultimately reducing stress.
In the 1970s, the Russians developed a biofeedback technology called a S.C.E.N.A.R, which stands for Self Controlled Energetic Neuro Adaptive Regulator. It is a simple, non-invasive way to address pain. Originally it was designed to support the Russian cosmonauts in space. With the coming down of Berlin Wall in 1989 and the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, SCENAR technology became more available in the West. I first became aware of it in 2004.
By applying this high-tech biofeedback device directly to the skin, one can effectively reduce pain, swelling and inflammation. Its effects are similar to acupuncture, but without the use of needles. The SCENAR also offers a profound sense of relaxation and rebalancing of the autonomic nervous system.
What is the SCENAR?
The SCENAR was originally developed by Alexander Karasev. He understood the unique relationship between the skin the brain. In a developing fetus, the skin and brain are made from the same tissue. So the application of the SCENAR on the skin sends electronic signals via the skin to the brain. These signals are almost identical to our own nerves. Through this feedback, the brain then stimulates the release of neurotransmitters such as neuropeptides and endorphins (the body's natural pharmacy) along with proteins, fats, red blood cells and white blood cells. Its action is aimed at normalizing disordered bodily function. The feedback the SCENAR provides is effective for many functional disorders. Essentially, it helps in the rebalancing of our Sympathetic Nervous System (fight or flight response) and the Parasympathetic Nervous System (rest, digest, relax and heal response).
Until more recently, the SCENAR was available only as a small, handheld device, which meant that biofeedback therapy was limited to one small area at a time. However, new advances in technology have resulted in the development of a larger device, called the VERTEBRA. This device effectively removes the limitations of the earlier models and makes it possible to perform biofeedback on the whole spine at once. This is significant for many reasons. Obviously, it is extremely helpful for addressing both neck and back pain. But by providing biofeedback to the entire spine and back, it can now innervate each organ and gland in the body. For example, we might imagine the spine (an extension of the brain) as an energy conduit that is connected to all our organs and glands by electrical cords; and any impairment with the spinal process would impact the flow of energy between the spine and the organs and glands connected to it, which leads to disease. So by lying on the “VERTEBRA” the entire body can receive biofeedback at once, helping to reconnect the communication between the spine and the most vital systems in the body.
What kinds of conditions does SCENAR treat?
It is amazing how the body can heal itself, when given the right information. SCENAR has been proven effective in about 82% of cases. It is extremely helpful in issues involving pain, swelling and inflammation. This form of biofeedback has been helpful in addressing diseases of the circulatory system, musculoskeletal system, respiratory system, digestive system, urinary system, genital system, nervous system, endocrine system. It can also help with diseases of the ear, mastoid process, eye, oral cavity, salivary glands, jaw, skin and subcutaneous tissue. Other applications include: injuries, poisoning, burns, corrosions, frostbites, and complications of trauma (including surgical and other medical-induced traumas), certain infections and parasitic diseases, metabolic, nutritional diseases, mental and behavioral dysfunctions. By addressing the nervous system directly, many conditions can be addressed simultaneously.
